Wood Screws vs. Deck Screws: What’s The Differences?

There are different sizes and shapes of the screw. Different screw use for a specific different purpose. Interestingly, from the ordinary wood screws, the deck screw is quite different. Definition of Wood Screws

You will be confused to see the wood and deck screws because they are both almost similar. But the larger surface has deck screws. And to bear the load this gives them a greater capacity. Deck screws are corrosion-resistant as they are made of coated copper or steel. Also, with all the weather conditions decking screws can withstand and this makes them ideal.

For both hard and softwood applications you can use the decking screws. There difference between wood and deck screw though they look similar. Rather than the ordinary screws, they are sharper tips and longer.

Differences between Wood and Deck Screws

Heads

Wood and deck, both screws have the same flat head. But the surface area of the deck screw head is bigger - you may notice this. And this is safe and it has the capacity of takes loads. It also has a bugle or flare shape that doesn't in the wood screws. This helps to prevent cracking or splitting and deck from the sinking in the material.

Threading

The threading of wood screws are very sharp but is not tapered. But, very sharp and deep threading has deck screws. This secures the wood pieces together and it's easier to cut into the wood boards.

Shank

For longevity, it is designed on the deck screws - shanks. With an aggressive tip, and tapered and sharp threading they come. It makes easy and fast to screw them into the surfaces. The similar shank has the wood screws but their threading is not as deep.

Construction Material

Deck screws are corrosion resistant and they are made of coated copper or steel. But with stainless steel, most of the screws are made of and tend to rust soon as they do not withstand with all weather conditions.Both screws look the same but they have differences. Choose the right one.
